About Us

It all started in the early 1920's, when a local blacksmith (Frank Schurman) set up shop in rural SW Washington.  His business grew, and so did his reputation for quality work. In 1957, his son (Paul Schurman) began his own business, maintaining his father's standards of quality and honest hard work.  Paul built the shop's reputation for quality by working on local farmer's machinery, including tractors and logging equipment used in the area. 

When Paul became sick in the 1970's, Alan Schurman, Paul’s son took over where his father left off.  Alan, a then successful Clark College diesel tech and machining instructor, left his job at the college to run the shop for over 25 years and then passed it on to his son-in-law, Matt Houghton.  Now at the 4^th generation, Matt continues the PSM legacy, while continuing to adapt to the machining industry. 

Since its inception, PSM has maintained a meticulous commitment to excellence that is second to none.  Paul Schurman Machine has been producing parts and machines for use throughout the world since 1957.  Quality craftsmanship and reliable on-schedule delivery has been its trademark. The skills and pride of Frank Schurman have been passed on through the generations and are exhibited today at our facilities.
