Our History

Since its inception, Schurman Machine has maintained a meticulous commitment to excellence that is second to none.  We have been producing parts and machines for use throughout the world since 1957.  Quality craftsmanship and reliable on-schedule delivery has been its trademark. The skills and pride of Frank Schurman (Paul’s Father) were passed on through the generations and are exhibited today at our facilities.

In the 1970′s Alan Schurman, Paul’s son, took over where his father left off in running the machine shop.  Alan, a then successful Clark College diesel tech and machining instructor, left his job at the college to run the shop for over 25 years.  At that time, he passed it on to his son-in-law, Matt Houghton.  Now the 4th generation, Matt continues the Schurman legacy, while continuing to adapt to the machining industry.

Our Future

In the past 10 years, our shop had been focused on getting more efficient equipment, with the importance on precision CNC machines.  We have added five CNC machines over that time, including a 36 foot Ingersoll Planer Mill, which was added in the summer of 2009.

Lean Manufacturing

While machinery is one important aspect of our workforce, we have also been working to become a more lean shop, by training our current staff to be more efficient.  We have re-tooled and re-configured our Tool Room, as well as a number of machines at our shop, which has increased our production and limited our setup times significantly.  We will continue to train our staff to become as efficient as possible, and we look forward to displaying our hard work to our customers.
